The same happened to me Brand new MBP 2011 bought yesterday. It was slow, but I got more done because it just works. I need them to send a replacement before I migrate and can test it or else I might give up and go back to the '09 White Macbook. This is already my second 2011 MBP (first locked up well before the monster thread occurred), and I really can't spend another day down, getting a new box online. I didn't spend $2500 to be a beta-tester and am really not quite happy with Apple at the moment. One stays on 24/7 in a kiosk 7 states away, I remote administer it and only have hands on it 2Xs annually. My other Macbook and MacMini have never done this after years using them with a HDTV constantly.
If I cycle back to the correct source on the TV, the computer comes back up and the VNC connection is never lost in the process.

If I (iTeleport) VNC into the machine, then change my TV source, the computer screen (on the remote VNC device) goes blank. Another interesting anomaly is in clamshell mode when connected to a HDTV.
